In its session held on Tuesday November 29, 2011, the Cabinet approved the Draft General Budget Law and Draft Budgets Law of Government Units for 2012.
In the Draft General Budget Law for 2012, total public expenditures amount to JD 6837 million, divided between JD 5839 million for current expenditures and JD 998 million for capital expenditures.
However, public revenues are estimated at JD 5810 million, of which JD 4940 million are domestic revenues while JD 870 million are foreign grants.
Accordingly, the budget deficit for 2012 reaches about JD 1027 million, i.e. 4.6% of GDP. This ratio is expected to continue decreasing to reach 3.5% of GDP in 2014.
The budget for next year is marked by expenditure control, especially current expenditures, which maintain the same re-estimated level in 2011. This reflects positively on the budget deficit that is estimated to fall to JD 1027 million compared to a JD 1265 million re-estimated in 2011.
As for the Draft Budgets Law of Government Units for 2012, revenues are estimated at JD 882 million, while expenditures are estimated at JD1819 million, with a deficit before financing of JD 937 million.
The two aforementioned draft laws were referred to the National Assembly for approval, in accordance with constitutional stages.
